11th May: Our day in the Ger Camp

It didn't take long to settle into our Ger. Inside was amazing and one of the young staff girls regularly popped in to keep the fire burning. The camp had 20 or so Gers and one central building which was the kitchen restaurant and shower block

In the distance from the camp we could see where a nomad had come down from the mountains and setup camp for the summer. Our guide said we could walk there and introduce ourselves. So off we went. It turned out to be a brother and sister who invited us into  their Ger and using our guide as a translator told us how they lived. They were very excited as their best cow gave birth a few hours before we arrived. We happened to have a bag of chocolate caramels which we gave them for their hospitality. I don't think they got treats like this very often.

Walking back I asked our guide about a statue of Khan I had read about. It turned out it was a 1hour 45 minute walk over sandhills from our camp. She was willing to take me if I was prepared to do the walk.
The statue was built in 2008. It is 40 meters high. It is made from two hundred and fifty tones of stainless steel and reputedly cost $4.1 million (American) to construct.

Yep I am standing on his mane

We left at 1pm and got home 6pm. Boy did I sleep well that night but so pleased I saw it
