5th May: We have organised a picnic.

So before we left Australia it was suggested maybe we want to have a picnic on the banks shores.
A stroll down a gravel path meandering through pine trees admiring alpine flowers which it being cold would be out. Finally stopping at a picnic table listening to the lapping lake water.

WRONG!!!

The morning was bloody cold with light rain when our new guide Sasha arrived. We crossed the river mouth on a car ferry. As the water is fairly fast flowing it does not freeze unlike the lake.
We arrive at the fish processing town which we could see yesterday from the lookout. And yes it is deserted and look really depressive.
The fishing boats we moored and frozen in.

Then along the shores of the frozen banks, not on a path but along a disused railway line.

After an hour we stopped and Sasha built a camp fire and cooked chicken over it. It was very nice, Sasha even produced a bottle of wine from his back pack.

Sasha was a school teacher back in the communist days and fortunately for us he was happy to tell us everything he went through after the fall of communism. It was very interesting to hear what he had to say. Although he was restricted sometimes in what he could do he did believe he was looked well after by the communistic government and you could hear he missed those days.
We wander back to the port and check out an old train before getting back on the ferry.

We got back to the hotel about 3:30pm and happy to sit around a fire and warm up. Might have even had a nip of vodka!
